Where Does Real Love Come From?

Almost everybody has shown and experienced love before. We say we love our families, our friends, our spouses, and even our pets. The young generation would definitely love this word. But do we really know the meaning of love? Or what does it take to love and be loved? Is love really blind? We hear break-ups and divorces happening in our society. Love hurts, as some people say. But can you find a person who loves you more than anything or anyone else, who willingly sacrifice the most precious and important thing in life for you? Everyone has been hurt by love in a way or another. The vast majority has felt the pain and the sorrow of being dumped by the one we really love, or we say we love. Is love really that insecure?

Where does real love come from? It comes from the Creator of love, and He Himself is love. He is clothed with love and compassion. His love was so strong that He willingly sent His only begotten Son, to die for you and me. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16). We all know most parents love their children. And we know parents would not allow their children to be hurt, harmed, or killed. But does it make sense, that the Creator of love and who called Himself love, sacrificed His only Son, just for you and me? He did that, “Greater love has no one than this, that He lay down His life for His friends” (John 15:13) and “This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him” (1 John 4:9)

God has shown love to you, by sacrificing His one and only Son to die for you and me. Which greater love can you find besides the love of God? His love is forever. God doesn’t have short-term love for you, but a long-term, and I say, eternal love for you. “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, His love endures forever” (Psalm 136:1). This is just one of the many verses in the bible that speaks of God’s love. His love never changes. For He Himself cannot change, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8)

Sometimes I can’t help but be in awe and touched by the love that God shows towards me. Sometimes I think I don’t deserve to be loved so much, yet He still loves me. No matter how ‘unclean’ or how rebellious I am towards Him, He still loves me the same. I can guarantee you that God loves you just as He loves me. Although we sometimes fail Him, but He still loves us and is willing to forgive us and accept us. All we need to do is acknowledge Him as the God of love, and His love will be poured freely on you. Sometimes we feel as though people do not love us anymore, or the love of our friends or loved ones seem to fade as the time goes by, but God’s love for you is always the same. Never decreases, but increases instead. Therefore do not be discouraged when you can’t find love or don’t feel loved. The love of God is all that you need to go on with your daily lives. I hope you will find the real love that God has for you. May God bless you and love you.

“And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him”
-1 John 4:16-
